Liquid waste disposal – Solidification by superabsorbent polymer

2023-09-08

Commonly used wastewater treatment methods include dewatering, sedimentation, composting, incineration, root-zone treatment, and solidification.

Among them, Solidification is one of the cheapest methods of waste disposal, and is easy to perform.

Solidification

Liquid waste solidification usually refers to adding a binding agent to make the waste liquid into a solid form that is easy to discard or landfill.

Advantage

  • Switching from liquid to solid waste can improve treatment efficiency.
  • The solidified waste liquid reduces the high cost of transporting liquid. In addition, solid waste liquid can be directly landfilled without wastewater treatment.
  • The waste liquid becomes more stable after becoming solid, reducing the risk of diffusion (especially for polluting or toxic waste liquid).

Binding agent type

Traditional binding agent

Traditional binding agents include lime, wood chips, cement kiln dust, lime kiln dust, gypsum, phosphate, fly ash, asphalt, and cement.

Due to the very weak water absorption capacity of these traditional materials, the excess solid material will generate a lot of waste. Excess weight and bulk sometimes lead to increased shipping and disposal costs and may require a disproportionate amount of space in landfills.

SAP-based binding agents

SAP (Superabsorbent Polymer) is a functional resin material with a strong ability to absorb liquid. This material has a very high water absorption capacity, which can reach hundreds or even thousands of times its own weight.

Therefore, SAP Based Binding agents can completely solve the problem that Binding agents generate a lot of garbage.

In addition, compared with traditional Binding agents, SAP Based Binding agents have the following advantages:

  • Extremely fast liquid absorption speed. SAP allows Binding agents to absorb liquids and form solids in seconds. This is extremely critical and important for the seepage treatment of similar toxic chemical liquid waste.
  • Strong ability to lock liquid. SAP allows Binding agents to lock the liquid firmly after absorbing the liquid, even if the accumulation is squeezed hard, the liquid will not leak out again. This feature is not available in traditional Binding agents.

Applications

Solidification is suitable for almost all scenarios where liquid waste is generated, especially in mining, construction, and urban construction.

The following is a list of widely used applications (SAP-based binding agents):

Drilling waste

Large quantities of fluid wastes containing drilling fluids are generated in projects such as resource extraction, utility installation, and tunnel excavation.

Tailings waste liquid

The puddles of Tailings waste liquid are usually very shallow, and it is difficult to clean them thoroughly with a water pump. Solidification can save time and effort to solve this problem.

Sludge

Almost all sludge can be processed by solidification. Through solidification, site remediation contractors can quickly, efficiently, and low-cost process a large number of sludge.

Medical waste

Although the amount of medical waste is usually small, it cannot be dumped directly, and sometimes it will be mixed with other medical waste. Therefore, the solidification method is extremely suitable for the treatment of such waste.

The following is the product specially developed by the Binding agent manufacturer for the treatment of medical waste liquid. (The outer packaging can be melted in the waste liquid, so that the binding agent can quickly and safely solidify the waste liquid)

Manure

It is suitable for the cleaning of public toilets and the collection of feces in animal farms.
